It is the policy and intent of the State
University of New York that no otherwise qualified person with disabilities
shall, solely by reason of his or her disability, be excluded from
participation in State University employment or be subject to discrimination
as a result of such employment.
The University will not discriminate against any employee or applicant
for employment because of physical or mental disability in regard to
any position for which the employee or applicant is qualified. The
University will employ, advance in employment, and otherwise treat
persons with disabilities without discrimination based upon their physical
or mental disability in all employment practices including, but not
limited to employment, upgrading, demotion or transfer, recruitment
advertising, layoff or termination, rates of pay or other forms of
compensation and selection for training.
Adoption of the above policy is in compliance with Section 504 of
the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended and the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990.
The term "person(s) with disability(ies)" means any person
who (1) has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits
one or more of such person's major life activities, (2) has a record
of such impairment, or (3) is regarded as having such impairment.
A person with disabilities is "substantially limited" if
he or she is likely to experience difficulty in securing, retaining
or
advancing in employment because of a disability.
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is the University at Buffalo's
center for coordinating services and accommodations to ensure accessibility
and usability of all programs, services and activities of the University
by people with disabilities and is a resource for information and advocacy
toward their full participation in all aspects of campus life. ODS
collaborates with the entire campus community to provide services in
the most integrated setting appropriate to the access needs of the
individual.
The University is subject to the requirements of Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act
of 1990 (ADA) regarding reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments
and auxiliary aids for qualified persons with disabilities. Individuals
with complaints regarding denials of academic adjustments/auxiliary
aids should contact the Equity, Diversity and Affirmative Action Administration
Office at 645-2266.
